Cheruiyot sets new record at Boston Marathon
Kenyan Robert Kiprono (Evans) Cheruiyot, 21, won the 114th running of the Boston Marathon while setting a new course record on April 19. He ran the marathon in two hours, five minutes and 52 seconds, beating the record of 2:07:14 set in 2006 by his namesake, Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot.

Cheruiyot won $150,000, plus a $25,000 bonus for setting a new course record.

Teyba Erkesso, 27, from Ethiopia won the women's division in 2:26:11, winning with just a three-second lead in her Boston Marathon debut. Erkesso also was awarded $150,000 for winning the women's division.
