| Canadian Men's Team up to Finish Fourteenth in Biathlon World Cup Relay |

ÖSTERSUND, Sweden (December 6, 2009) The Canadian Men's Biathlon Team wrapped up the first stop of the World Cup season by finishing 14th in a 4 x 7.5-kilometre team relay on Sunday in Östersund, Sweden. A week highlighted by Jean-Philippe Le Guellec posting two results in the top-12, the Shannon, Quebec, native teamed up with three other Canucks--Brendan Green, of Hay River, N.W.T., Ottawa's Robin Clegg who races out of Quebec, and Edmonton's Jaime Robb to clock a combine time of one hour 18 minutes, 36.8 seconds. The French team of Vincent Jay, Vincent Defrasne, Simon Fourcade and Martin Fourcade won the relay after overtaking the Russians in the final standing stage. The French team had one penalty by Defrasne, but only used seven spare rounds in the competition. France posted a winning time of 1:15:10.3. The powerful Norwegians locked up second spot at 1:15:24.0, while the Austrians were third with a time of 1:15:28.5. The Canadian women did not field a relay team. The Canadian team will now head to down the road to Austria for the next stop on the World Cup. Biathlon Canada, the governing body for biathlon in the country, oversees the Canadian Championships, Eastern and Western Canadian Championships, and the North American Cups held in Canada. The organization's mandate is to provide national level programs for the continuous development of biathlon athletes from the grassroots to the elite level.
