Michelle Gentis and son Joshua Finish the BMO Vancouver Marathon
Here’s how it went in Michelle Gentis’s words:

image001“We did it! Josh and I had an amazing marathon yesterday. Thank you again for your contribution. We couldn’t have done it without the help of our supporters.

“We started up front with the wheelchair participants. Our time of 4:21:36 was pretty good, even though we stopped to hug friends and take pictures along the way. Josh and the jogger weigh just over 100 pounds. My Garmin reported a 5,715-foot elevation gain! Pushing 100 pounds uphill brings a whole new meaning to the word ‘hill.’

“Marathon running for me is about health, strength, and fitness. It’s also about mental toughness and endurance. This race for us was about participating together and getting involved in sport, in our community, and in life.

“Most importantly, Joshua had a great time. He did very well. The cheering and encouragement from the crowd was unbelievable. Some of the most special moments included seeing friends along the way who came out to cheer us on. At one point, a group of Josh’s friends were running along beside him. He was so excited he could hardly stand it.

“Josh proudly wore his medal and t-shirt to school. There was an announcement first thing at school the next morning congratulating him on his accomplishment. The kids have been terrific. It’s heart warming to see their support of Josh.
